SOWC ‘New Year, New Ideas’

“New Year, New Ideas” was the theme of the SOWC’s Tea on Monday, 28 January, and more than 25 ‘Activities’ were present to share their ideas with the ladies of the SHAPE Community.

Guests were free to munch on finger food prepared by the SHAPEv17a Clubstaff as they collected information about travel, language, fitness, art and more. This event featured nine different artists from the SHAPE Arts and Crafts Centre,demonstrating their skills which included jewellery-making, quilting, embroidery, calligraphy, pottery, scrapbooking and furniture restoration. The “Welcome to Belgium - Mons” Ladies Committee was presented with small gifts from the SOWC as a thank you for their dedication to sharing the Belgian culture and language with the SHAPE community. These Belgian ladies are volunteers from the local area who host weekly French conversation groups in their homes and arrange cultural and historical visits to destinations throughout Belgium. The committee’s president, Mme Paule Johnson-Ghysels, took the opportunity to thank the SOWC and the NMR ladies for their support. CPC Didier Parmentier came to tell the guests about the “Ladies’ Information Day” which will take place on 13 March. Ladies who wish to learn more about the cultural experiences that await them in Brussels and Wallonia are invited to attend a day of presentations by members of local tourism offices. The Club is thrilled to announce that we now have a new name: SHAPE International Women’s Club. The purpose of our club is still to sponsor activities of interest to members and to promote friendship and an exchange of ideas. We believe that welcoming ALL the women of the SHAPE Community to join us at our events will make our international environment even more rewarding.

v17fThe new SIWC has several exciting luncheons scheduled for this Spring. On 17 March, the women of the Turkish community will be hosting a Turkish National Luncheon.

On 14 April, the Grupo Abanico will be hosting a Spanish Luncheon, and on 19 May the NMR Ladies will be hosting a Spring Luncheon. Tickets will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis on the Tuesday and Wednesday before each luncheon, from 0930 to 1200 hours at the SHAPE Club. All ladies of SHAPE are invited to attend; tickets are e20 for members, and e25 for guests. Each of these luncheons promises to be a fabulous opportunity to meet new friends and gain some insight into other cultural traditions. We hope to see you there!
