SHAPE International Toastmasters’ Club
Good communication and leadership skills are as relevant as ever!
The SHAPE International Toastmasters’ Club extends its best wishes to everybody for a prosperous Year 2008!
The SHAPE International Toastmasters’ Club in Mons is a group of adults (18+ years) meeting twice a month. The Club was formed in 1992. Presently, it has 18 members from 9 countries. Visitors may attend meetings free. Our meetings are conducted in English and provide a friendly, positive and constructive atmosphere. We support each other towards speaking confidently in public and improving our leadership skills. As speakers and judges, we challenge ourselves to do our personal best. The linguistic skills in the English language are on different levels. Our well-structured meetings provide an excellent opportunity for non-native English speakers to practise and improve their spoken English. When English is your native language, your reading, writing and speaking skills can always be improved.
This is a club where Toastmaster members learn by doing and by watching. We have fun and make lasting friendships in a truly international environment. Toastmasters receive a booklet, ‘Competent Communication & Competent Leadership Manual’ with ten speech projects. Each speech project is designed to develop the member’s speaking skills a step at a time and every project builds upon existing learning. Additionally, new Toastmaster members receive other manuals to guide them, such as ‘Competent Leadership’ (a practical guide to becoming a better leader), ‘Your Speaking Voice’, ‘Gestures – Your Body Speaks’ and ‘Effective Speech Evaluation’. The magazine ‘Toastmasters’ is included in the subscription and is sent directly to the new members’ home address every month. This provides advice and an exchange of experiences with Toastmasters around the world.
The SHAPE International Toastmasters’ Club holds two training and education meetings each year with the other 8 Toastmaster clubs in Belgium. A speech contest is organized during the Spring and Autumn each year on Club, Area, Division and District level. You are cordially invited to attend our Club’s Spring Evaluation and International Speech Contest at the SHAPE Club Hainaut Room on Tuesday, 26 February 2008.
If you are interested in learning more about our club, please visit us at one of our meetings (normally on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month between 1830 and 2030 hours) usually in the SHAPE Club Hainaut Room. (Please note that those who are not members of SHAPE require a special access pass.) If you join Toastmasters (Communicators) International, please note that there is a small membership fee to pay, but visitors can attend free. Please see our Club’s programme of events for the period January - September 2008.
The SHAPE Toastmasters will be present at the SOWC New Year’s Tea “New Year, New Possibilities” on Monday, 28 January, when we will be happy to provide those interested with more information on our Club’s programme of education and events.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our future meetings.
