International Walking Group

v27a

Two years ago, I noticed a lot of new people arriving at SHAPE were asking me whether there was a walking group on Base. I was a volunteer in charge of the Canadian Walking Club but as there were not many people coming out I decided to see if an International Walking Group would appeal to SHAPE members.
Well, as some of you may have noticed, we have been an ongoing dedicated group of walkers!  What better way to get into shape at SHAPE than to walk! It's a great way to meet members from different countries.
If you are interested in walking with us, we leave from the front of the Main Gym at 0900 hrs every weekday morning and walk 6 km. If you are just starting and don't want to walk the whole 6 km, there are markers on the route so you can adjust your distance to suit your fitness level, etc. Don't worry whether you are a fast walker or a slow walker, we have all levels of speed! You can walk as many days a week as you want. I am always asked the question, "You don't walk when it rains do you?" Yes we do! For some reason, we have been very lucky with the weather and haven't been rained on very often!
We also have ladies who do Nordic Walking with the walking sticks and are hoping to have a Nordic Walking class in the near future, which the Gym staff are helping to coordinate for us.
For those of you interested in Volksmarching, here are two links for local Belgian walks on the weekends. www.ffbmp.be <http://www.ffbmp.be> and http://www.adeps.be. A great way to explore the small villages in Belgium!

See you out there! Debbie Godwin
